Following the false memo issued by the FCT Education Board to close schools in Abuja , the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike has warned that those involved will be forgiven.
The minister made this known on Wednesday while addressing newsmen during an inspection at the Guzape A11 village.
Wike said, “I think many people were surprised that we didn’t give approval, yet the FCT Education Board went ahead to issue it.”
The minister said that he was surprised because the circular was given to all the schools without authorized approval.
“I was watching television last night, and I saw a school, that FCT has directed that schools should be shut down.I couldn’t believe it, so I had to call the Mandate Secretary of Education and of course, he couldn’t reply. Then I had to get to the details.”
The minister said he had to investigate to find out and he called the Police Commissioner and other authorities
who issued the circular, and they said it is not in their agenda , because there is no security threat that will warrant them to shut down the schools.
“ So for that reason, the Mandate Secretary of Education has been suspended indefinitely, and the directors who were involved will be sanctioned according to civil service rules.
Wike, however, said that as the minister of the FCT, he must inform the president before taking such a decision.
“I cannot do that without letting the President know. This is the FCT. Do you know what that tells? That there’s insecurity in FCT.”
He lamented that some people take such a decision without informing the head of affairs of the territory.
The security would do everything possible to make sure that the schools are ongoing. But we will not forgive anybody who is involved in this, he reaffirmed.
