Insecurity: Wike Supports “Operation Sweep” to Flush Criminalities out of Abuja

By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

The FCT Minister Barr. Nysome Wike has given his support through the provision of logistics to kick-start the relaunched Operation Sweep” to safeguard and flush out all forms of criminality from the territory.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, disclosed this on Wednesday in Lifecamp after a security meeting chaired by the FCT Minister, Barr Nysome Wike.

CP Dantawaye said that the FCT minister has provided adequate logistics for the operation, and it has been kick-started with the creation of four major sectors in the territory.

“The FCT Minister, His Excellency Nyesom Wike in his wisdom, has provided adequate logistics for that operation, and it has been kick-started. It kick-started with the creation of four major sectors”, he said.

“The sectors include the Gwagwalada Sector, the Bwari Sector, and the two sectors domiciled within the city centre.

He explained that those sectors will capture everywhere within the city, including Berger, Wuse, and will extend up to Karu, Mararaba, Karshi, Orozo. So the operation has kick-started, he emphasized.

He disclosed that “Operation Sweep ” kick-started yesterday ( Tuesday)with , various security agencies putting their hands together, including the police, the military, the NSCDC, the DSS, the Road Safety, and the Immigration, Correctional Service, under the control of the FCT, coming together to commence their Operation Sweep.

CP Dantawaye disclosed that already patrol has commenced in earnest with the deployment of heavy logistics around locations, especially around the fringes, where it is most likely that anyone who wants to perpetrate that level of crime will want to attempt it.

“So schools are being patrolled, schools are being profiled, and schools are being well secured.”

“We have deployed massively, even for church and mosque functions. So our Christian brothers our Muslim brothers should go about carrying out their religious functions, because on Fridays we are going to secure almost all, if not all, the mosques. And on Sundays we will do the same for the churches,” he reassured.

Meanwhile, the FCT CP further promised that protection will be given to relevant agencies to carry out demolition of shanties within the city.

“We will give them support to demolish those shanties as long as it is authorized by the law”, he warned.

He said that the security is on top of their game and appealed to FCT residents to go about their day-to-day activities, as he assured them of adequate security to the best of their ability.
