Wike Targets May Completion of Abuja Road Projects for Tinubu’s Anniversary

By Joyce Remi Babayeju

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing key road infrastructure projects across Abuja by May, ahead of commissioning by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as part of his third anniversary celebrations.
Wike gave the assurance during an extensive inspection tour of major project corridors within the capital city.

The projects inspected include the interchange being constructed by China Geo-Engineering Corporation (CGC), the Airport Road–Kuje junction handled by Arab Contractors, and the first section of the Kuje Road being executed by Gilmor Engineering Nigeria Limited.

According to the minister, the inspection is part of a deliberate governance strategy aimed at ensuring accountability, adherence to timelines, and high-quality project delivery.

He expressed confidence in the pace of work, noting that contractors are on track to meet the May deadline.
“We are out to verify that contractors are keeping to their commitments. From what we have seen so far, the projects are progressing satisfactorily and are expected to be ready by the end of May,” he said.
Wike described the quality and speed of work as impressive, while emphasizing that monitoring will be sustained to ensure consistency and timely completion.

He added that the FCT Administration will continue routine inspections, maintain pressure on contractors, and provide the necessary support to ensure deadlines are met.
The minister stressed that governance must translate into tangible benefits for residents, noting that the provision of alternative routes during construction has helped ease traffic disruptions and improve public perception.

“When residents are satisfied, it reflects the impact of governance. The ability of contractors to create alternative routes during construction has significantly reduced inconvenience, and we appreciate the positive feedback,” he stated.
Wike further noted that increased public presence and engagement around project sites reflects growing confidence in the administration’s efforts and serves as motivation to deliver more people-oriented infrastructure.
