Victor Osimhen delivered a stunning performance on Thursday night, scoring twice as the Super Eagles thrashed Gabon 4–1 in extra time to advance to the final round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs at the Stade Mohammed V in Rabat, Morocco.
After a tense, goalless first half, Akor Adams broke the deadlock early in the second half, capitalising on a defensive error to hand Nigeria the lead. Gabon fought back, equalising just four minutes before full time to drag the game into extra time.
The momentum swung back Nigeria’s way when Chidera Ejuke calmly slotted home to restore the lead, before Osimhen sealed the victory with two quickfire goals that left the Panthers stunned.
A rock-solid defensive display from Benjamin Frederick and Calvin Bassey kept Gabon at bay, ensuring there was no late comeback.
The emphatic win puts Nigeria one step closer to booking their ticket to the 2026 World Cup, with the decisive playoff round now set to determine their qualification.
