The Yagba Good Governance Advocacy group in Kogi State has declared that the people of Yagba Federal Constituency will vote for the best candidate, regardless of zoning claims. The group strongly rejected the push for zoning, labeling those behind it as political opportunists.
In a press conference held at the NUJ Press Centre in Lokoja on December 19, 2024, spokesperson Eniola Olayemi criticized the efforts of some politicians to divide the region. He emphasized that the people of Yagba are politically mature and capable of handling challenges without exacerbating tensions.
Olayemi questioned why some individuals were already advocating for the 2027 election when the current representative, Elder Leke Abejide, was still in office. He accused those who have served multiple terms in the National Assembly of being behind the premature calls for zoning.
The group stressed that it supports a fair and democratic process, where the most qualified candidate is chosen, irrespective of zoning. Olayemi also acknowledged Abejide’s contributions, such as funding WAEC fees for students and initiating community development projects.
In conclusion, the group called for unity among Yagba residents and urged politicians to prove their worth through the ballot, rather than promoting division.
