Yobe Recruits Repentant Boko Haram Insurgents into ‘Hybrid Force’ for Counterinsurgency – Special Adviser

The Yobe State Government announced on Wednesday that repentant Boko Haram insurgents are aiding counterinsurgency efforts in the state. Governor Mai Mala Buni’s Special Adviser on Security, Brig. Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam (retd.), addressed the media in Damaturu, responding to residents’ concerns about these former insurgents participating in security operations in Geidam.

“There is no government that will take any decision that is to the detriment of its people. The government is committed to ending insurgency so that we can have peace,” Abdulsalam stated.

He explained that the “Hybrid Force,” consisting of these repentant insurgents, assists security agencies with operations in Damaturu, Goniri, and Buni Yadi by providing critical information about Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents and their collaborators.

The special adviser noted that these former insurgents were deployed to Geidam to help prevent the infiltration of terrorists and their supporters. He highlighted that individuals in Geidam were engaging in activities on behalf of Boko Haram, such as supplying food, fuel, and other essentials. The Hybrid Force has identified and led to the arrest of 12 people linked to Boko Haram’s leadership and supply chain, who have been transferred to Damaturu for interrogation.

Abdulsalam urged Geidam residents to cooperate with security agents in eliminating terrorist threats and blocking their supply routes. He emphasized the importance of disrupting Boko Haram’s access to crucial supplies like fuel, food, and medicine, which they often obtain through attacks on hospitals and shops.
