ZAMFARA NUJ COUNCIL WORRIES OVER INSECURITY.

From Abba Kabara, Gusau.

Zamfara state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)  expresses deep concern over the persistent security challenge facing the state and entire North-West of the country.

This was contained in a communique released after the council’s maiden Congress meeting chaired by the acting council chairman, Comrade Abdulrazak Bello held last Wednesday.

The communique, while commending the Federal government for a series of efforts and strategies deployed to curtail the scourge, it, however, urges for the deployment of more troops to facilitate the speedy clearance of the killer bandits.

The communique also appeals to the various security agents deployed to the state to be more committed towards their responsibility of wiping out the dreaded bandits and other forms of crimes from the state.

It also commended the government of Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari for its sustained efforts in committing huge resources to save the situation, particularly the recent recruitment of eight thousand five hundred(8500) civilian JTF to complement the efforts.

As regards the ongoing political campaign activities, the communiqué expresses the determination to ensure that its members provide fair reportage to all candidates, but would maintain the professional ethics and journalism guidelines in all dealings.

Zamfara government was however implored to provide the needed relevant equipment in its Media units and also endeavor to address issues constraining the free operations of both Federal and private media-based in the state.

Contained in the communique, the council says it has noted with concern, the unnecessary intrusion of social media practitioners into journalism profession and practice in Zamfara state, with a resolve to constitute a committee designed to address the issue.
