Gov Zulum charges military on combating insurgency.

By Dauda R Pam Maiduguri

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum has urged Nigerian Army to change the narratives of the war to enable the army end INSURGENCY which has already caused unpalatable havoc to the people.

The GOVERNOR made the call while declaring open the chief of army staff combined four-day conference to enable the military to appraise the level of implementation of it’s focus so far in 2020,which was held at the command guest house Tuesday in MAIDUGURI.

He charged them to take the war to Boko Haram hideouts of Sambisa Forest and Lake Chad
region warning that, troops should not wait for terrorists to launch
attacks on them and civilians in Borno state and Northeast.

He said the need for them to take the war to insurgency hideouts, will expose them, their
collaborators and sponsors operating in forest region of the state
as the need for them to change the narratives of war to end
insurgency can not be over emphasised as it has already claimed many lives and property.

He continued; “We’ve no choice, but to face them squarely. As we must
not allow temporary setbacks to becloud  our focus, we should remain steadfast in our collective efforts to free our nation from the dreaded Boko
Haram insurgents and  emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration in tackling the
security challenges through positive, constructive and conscious media
reportage.”

According to the GOVERNOR, the need to address causes of insurgency, which are
not limited to endemic poverty, unemployment, poor infrastructural
facilities among others is very key.

The only solution to end the  insurgency among others, is for state
government and military to look into a political solution to the crisis.

Earlier the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai in his opening remarks
charged field commanders not to relent, but to sustain the tempo of
operations and to decimate inimical forces challenging their success in bringing to an end the over 10year old assymetric warfare in the Northeast.Ends.
