16 Feared Dead in Fresh Benue Attack

Gunmen suspected to be bandits launched a deadly assault on several communities in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State, resulting in the death of 16 people.

The attack occurred just a day after rival militia groups wreaked havoc on the Gbagir community in Ukum Local Government Area, claiming the lives of at least 40 individuals.

According to sources, the gunmen went on a killing spree, targeting about 11 communities in the area.

State Deputy Governor, Sam Ode, accompanied by security chiefs, has embarked on a spot assessment of the affected area.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, assured that more details would be provided once the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, who is currently at the troubled scene, returns.

Further information will be shared as the situation unfolds.
