The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says its ongoing efforts to safeguard critical power infrastructure are yielding results, following the arrest of five suspected vandals in Upu Community, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The suspects were apprehended by local vigilantes on November 3, 2025, while allegedly vandalising towers N16 and N17 on the Otukpo–Yandev 132kV single-circuit transmission line. TCN disclosed that damage from the incident extended to eight additional towers along the route.
Recovered items, including dismembered tower parts and other materials, were handed over to the Benue State Police Command for investigation and prosecution.
TCN confirmed that the affected section of the line has been isolated, while bulk power supply has been restored to Yandev, Wukari, Takum, and Kashimbila Transmission Substations through the Apir Substation. The Otukpo Substation is meanwhile being backfed from the New Haven Substation.
The company commended the Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, community leaders, youths, and members of the local vigilante group for their swift action and cooperation, noting that such community-driven support is crucial to protecting Nigeria’s transmission infrastructure.
TCN also pledged to sustain collaboration with host communities to prevent future acts of vandalism and ensure uninterrupted power supply.
