As part of efforts to strengthen ties with Nigeria, especially in the educational sector, the Chinese government has donated copies of the rejuvenation book series to the National Library of Nigeria and the Centre for China Studies (CCS).
Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at the China Cultural Centre in Abuja, Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Cui Jianchun said the series, which is a reflection of China’s contemporary history, selects important documents related to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and describes in a panoramic manner, the unremitting efforts of the Chinese in pursuit of national liberty, development, prosperity and rejuvenation.
“The book series display the spirit that has influenced China’s development process and revealed the historic logic and cultural landscape of the Chinese nation’s great rejuvenation.
“From a poverty-stricken country to the world’s second-largest economy, the mystery of China’s development lies in the book series,” he added.
He noted that the donations will scale up cooperation between Nigeria and China in the field of national development, governance, as well as in publishing and academic industries.
Also speaking, Charles Onunaiju, Director of the Centre for China Studies (CCS) said the donations open a fresh window in the iconic Nigeria-China Cooperation, which has also yielded practical and substantive gains to the two sides.
The academic don said China and Nigeria’s cooperation is already a model of pragmatic cooperation built on a long-standing tradition of win-win and mutual benefit.
Earlier in her remarks, Adejumoke Ajibola of the National Library of Nigeria thanked the Chinese government for the donations and advocated more educational collaborations between both nations.
The event was attended by Hu Heping, China’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, who also doubles as the Executive Deputy Head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, Lin Liying, President of the China National Publications Import and Export Group Limited, the academic community, among others.
