Colonel Garba Moyi (Retired) Resigns from Committee Appointment

Colonel Garba Moyi (Retired) has retired from the appointment given to him by the state government just five days ago to lead the Sokoto Committee for the establishment of Sokoto Community Security Guards. This decision comes in response to the recent discussions on social media suggesting that he may not be the right person for the role chosen by the government of Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto.

The retired officer previously served as the Isa local government council chairman and held the position of Commissioner four times during the past administration.

Colonel Garba Moyi had recently been appointed to head a 25-member committee tasked with creating Sokoto’s own Security Guards, who would be trained in essential skills to counter banditry and other social issues that have been affecting the state’s progress.

In his statement, he said, “I meritoriously retired from the army, earned various medals, and served both within and outside the country. Now, I find myself accused of various things. If the state government deemed me fit to lead the committee, I see no reason for the unnecessary discussions on social media questioning my suitability for the job.”

He continued, “I will never compromise my integrity for anything. No appointment is worth more to me than my integrity. As a result, I have decided to step down from my position as the chairman of the community guards.”

“I would like to express my gratitude to His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Aliyu, for considering me suitable for this significant role. I assure His Excellency and the people of the state that I am at their service, and I will continue to contribute my share to the progress and development of the state.”
