Naval Chief Urges Promoted Officers to Combat Oil Theft and Maritime Crimes

Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, the Chief of Naval Staff, has called on recently promoted senior naval officers to escalate their efforts in combatting oil theft and other maritime crimes in Nigeria. Ogalla emphasized that in addition to maritime responsibilities, the Navy is actively engaged in counter-terrorism operations in the North-East and North-West regions. He urged the officers to contribute their best efforts to eliminate criminal activities across the country.

During the decoration ceremony of the promoted officers in Abuja, six officers were adorned with the rank of Commodore, four with the rank of Captain, and 16 with the rank of Commander. Ogalla, represented by Rear Admiral Joseph Akpan, cautioned the officers not to take their promotions lightly.

Addressing the officers, Ogalla stated, “There is an intense requirement and desire to reduce maritime crimes that are perpetrated in our maritime environment. These include piracy, robbery at sea, and of course, the issue of crude oil theft and illegal refining sites, pipeline vandalism, and all sorts of crimes that we encounter there.”

Highlighting the security threats, Ogalla emphasized the tradition of formally decorating successful senior officers, commending their dedication, diligence, and loyalty. He reminded the officers that their promotions signify a new phase in their careers, requiring commitment, responsibility, and exemplary service to the nation, especially during this critical period in Nigeria’s history.
