2024 UTME: JAMB approves free registration for people with disabilities

The Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has taken a significant step to enhance inclusivity by approving free registration for Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWD) participating in the 2024/2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

The Registrar of JAMB, Ishaq Oloyede, announced the commencement of registration for the 2024 UTME, emphasizing the board’s commitment to providing support to all categories of PLWD. In a bid to facilitate their registration process, JAMB will offer free application documents to individuals with disabilities.

To address the specific needs of visually impaired candidates, Oloyede highlighted the introduction of audiobooks, a digital adaptation of traditional reading materials. These audiobooks will be available in popular formats like MP3, WMV, and WMA, ensuring compatibility with various devices capable of streaming audio records.

The decision to provide audiobooks originated from discussions at the first National Conference on Equal Opportunity of Access to Higher Education in Nigeria. This innovative approach aims to make educational materials more accessible for visually impaired candidates, promoting inclusivity in the examination process.

JAMB’s supportive measures extend to a diverse range of disabilities, including Down syndrome, Autism, Dyslexia disorder, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This initiative underscores the commitment to creating an equitable and accessible environment for all candidates, aligning with broader efforts to promote diversity and inclusiveness in education.

As registration kicks off, JAMB emphasizes its dedication to ensuring a seamless and accommodating process for all candidates, fostering a conducive environment for academic success.”
