EFCC Initiates Investigation into Over 3,000 Financial Crimes, Recovers N60bn

Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has disclosed the agency’s plans to probe more than 3,000 financial crime cases. These cases are part of the over 5,000 petitions received by the EFCC from various groups and individuals.

Olukoyede made this announcement during the 20th-anniversary lecture of the Human and Environmental Development Agenda Resources Centre held in Lagos. He revealed that the EFCC, under his leadership, has recovered over N60 billion and $10 million within a span of fewer than four months.

Highlighting the pervasive nature of corruption in Nigeria, Olukoyede emphasized the need for collective responsibility to combat corruption and move the country forward. He reiterated his commitment to leveraging the anti-corruption drive to stimulate the Nigerian economy.

The EFCC chairman stressed the importance of professionalism and adherence to the rule of law in ensuring Nigeria’s economic growth. He underscored the need for an effective policing system with integrity and emphasized the importance of the judiciary in upholding accountability.

Chairman of HEDA, Mr. Olanrewaju Suraju, echoed the sentiment of collective responsibility in the fight against corruption, emphasizing the role of every Nigerian in contributing to the cause. He called for increased professionalism and integrity within government institutions and the judiciary to effectively tackle corruption and promote economic development.

The EFCC’s dedication to investigating financial crimes and recovering stolen funds underscores its commitment to fighting corruption and promoting transparency and accountability in Nigeria.
