The Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended an herbalist and 48 individuals suspected of internet fraud in Lokoja, Kogi State.
According to a statement released by the EFCC on Thursday, the arrests were made based on credible intelligence on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at various locations in Lokoja.
The statement revealed that the herbalist, believed to be a spiritual mentor to internet fraudsters, was captured with an assortment of charms. Among the items seized from the suspects were 10 luxury cars, two motorcycles, 11 laptops, 83 mobile phones, and various mystical items.
All the suspects, males aged between 17 and 34, will undergo further investigation and be arraigned in court upon completion of the ongoing inquiries.
This recent development echoes a similar incident reported in February 2023, where the police command in Edo State apprehended a 65-year-old herbalist among 22 individuals arrested for various crimes, including armed robbery, cultism, and unlawful assembly in the state.
