Customs Officer Fatally Attacked by Truck Passengers in Katsina

By Daniel Edu

In a tragic turn of events along the Katsina-Dankama road in Kaita Local Government Area, a customs officer met his demise at the hands of passengers aboard a truck. The incident unfolded on Wednesday morning at Gamjin Makaho village along Dankama road.

According to reports, the customs officers signaled the truck driver, who was ferrying passengers to Dankama town, to halt. However, the driver refused to comply with their directive. Amidst the escalating tension, one of the customs officers reportedly discharged their firearm, inadvertently injuring a passenger in the waist.

Subsequently, the truck came to a stop, prompting the enraged passengers to confront the customs officers. In a violent outburst, they targeted the officer who had fired the shot, leading to his tragic demise. The identity and rank of the fallen officer remain undisclosed at present.

Tragically, another casualty emerged from the fray. Bashir Na-Buzuwa, a 27-year-old resident of Doro town in Bindawa LGA, succumbed to the gunshot wound sustained during the altercation.

Confirming the distressing incident, SC Tahir Balarabe, the Customs Public Relations Officer in Katsina State, assured that an official statement from the Service would be forthcoming. Efforts are underway to retrieve the remains of the deceased officer as investigations into the incident continue.
