Breaking News: FCCPC Seals Chinese Supermarket in Abuja

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has taken action by sealing off an Abuja-based Chinese supermarket situated within the China General Chamber of Commerce in Abuja.

The closure comes in response to allegations of discriminatory practices against Nigerians within the supermarket premises.

Officials from the FCCPC took swift action by sealing off the supermarket after conducting interrogations with Nigerian employees at the establishment.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the owner of the supermarket, Cindy Liu Bei, a Chinese national, had fled the premises along with her family on Monday morning at 8:26 am, as captured by Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage.

Upon discovering the absence of the owner, the FCCPC officials promptly shut down the supermarket.

This action follows recent reports, including an exclusive feature by The press, highlighting the implementation of a controversial policy at the supermarket that restricted entry solely to Chinese nationals, thereby excluding Nigerians from accessing the establishment. The discriminatory policy sparked widespread condemnation across various social media platforms, prompting regulatory intervention.
