Veteran Journalist Sidi Ali Passes Away at 86

Sidi Ali, a prominent figure in Nigerian journalism and former Second Republic lawmaker, breathed his last on Thursday evening at the age of 86. His demise has been met with mourning, including expressions of condolence from the Kano State Government.

Ali, father to Hakama Sidi Ali, who currently serves as the acting Director of the Corporate Communication Department at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was revered for his steadfast commitment to national service, particularly in the realm of public information.

Shehu Sani, a human rights activist and former lawmaker, took to his X handle (formerly Twitter) on Friday to lament Ali’s passing. He described Ali as a “human library,” highlighting his remarkable ability to recall pivotal events in Nigeria’s history.

“I received the sad news of the demise of renowned elder statesman, author, journalist, politician, and historian, Alhaji Sidi Ali. The late Sidi was a prolific writer and a human library who could recount events in Nigeria up until late independence. A great loss. My condolences to his family and the people of Kano State,” Sani expressed.

Throughout his distinguished career, Ali left an indelible mark on various institutions, including the Nigerian International Press Centre, the Ministry of Information, and the National Broadcasting Commission. Additionally, he played an active role in the All Progressives Congress (APC), serving as a respected member of the party’s Elders Committee in Kano State.
