19 Die In a Ghastly Auto Crash in Kogi

No fewer than 19 persons over the weekend lost their lives in an auto crash in the Okene area of Kogi State.

Confirming the accident to Journalists on Sunday, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Education Officer, Jonas Agwu said the accident involved two vehicles, a truck, and a Toyota Hiace bus coming from Kano State, he said. Both vehicles collided.

According to him, 22 persons, all male, were involved in the accident but 19 of them died, one injured, 2 other persons were rescued unhurt by FRSC operatives.

“Emergency rescue teams of the Federal Road Safety Corps endured over three hours of inferno in their bid to rescue road traffic victims at the scene.

The incident happened on Sunday 28 April 2024 at Okene bypass, on the Okene-Lokoja highway in Kogi State,” FRSC’s corps education officer Jonas Agwu said in a statement.

“The impact of the collision resulted in a fire inferno that burnt the victims to death,” the statement read.

The remains of the victims have since been deposited at Okene General Hospital.
