By Jennifer Y Omiloli

A Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, Owerri-bound Air Peace flight on Tuesday morning made an air return on engine failure.

The plane, with 90 passengers and six crew members on board leaving the airport at 07.35am, arrived at 8.06am.

Air Peace, Stanley Olisa, Corporate Communications Executive, said the aircraft was already airborne when the pilot noticed a change in one of the engines ‘ parameters and aborted the flight.

“He reported the incident; took precautionary measure and returned to base in line with Air Peace safety operational procedures,” Olisa said.

The Accident Investigation Bureau said it had been notified of the incident which involved a Boeing 737-500 aircraft with registration number 5N-BUJ, adding that it had commenced investigation.

The AIB’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Mr Tunji Oketunbi, said the flight crew reported engine failure at 7:47 local time from the information provided by the Air Traffic Control, and subsequently made an air return to Lagos.

“The aircraft landed safely at 08:06 local time. All the occupants disembarked with no injury. The AIB team of safety investigators has commenced investigation,” Oketunbi said.

While apologizing to its affected customers, Olisa said that in its operations, the airline would continue to maintain high safety standards.
