Sen. Akpabio decries previous FCT administrations’ lack of vision to develop Abuja

By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio has decried previous FCT administrations for lack of vision to develop the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

Sen. Akpabio said this at the official flag- off of the Kugbo Bus Terminal, at Kugbo on Monday.

The Senate President who lauded Mr. Project, Barr. Nyesom Wike for his vision for an efficient infrastructural development in the nation’s capital, adding that the previous FCT administrations simply lacked the vision to develop the territory.

“When you go to Kastina, and other states of the federation including Kano , Kaduna, you start wondering why the FCT was neglected , l don’t think FCT was neglected I think the problem was that there was no vision.”

“There was no vision that is the way I see it because if somebody recognized the fact that this is where all the ambassadors of various countries come, and where all heads of States of would come then there would have been a need to complete most of the artillery roads and even develop more, he said.

According to him, Abuja as an international arena should have an international coloration, but unfortunately the city was neglected.

Before the advent of President Tinubu’s administration, people wondered if we actually have a capital city considering the fact that if you go to Akwa Ibom State, you see roads and Airports , and you go to Rivers State you see what Mr. project has done, you start to wonder why the FCT was neglected.

Mainwhile, Sen. Akpabio who flagged -off aid the Kugbo Bus Terminal said it will reduce traffic congestion.

Akpabio described the project as, a significant milestone in the on-going efforts to enhance the infrastructure and public transportation system in the capital city of our beloved country.

“This terminal will serve as a vital hub that will facilitate the efficient movement of people, reduce traffic congestion and improve the overall quality of life for residents and visitors alike in the city.”

He also noted that the development of bus terminals is not just construction projects, but a commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s government to the progress and modernization of Nigeria.

The Senate President said,”The Kugbo Bus Terminal is designed to be a state-of-the-art facility, equipped with modern amenities to ensure comfort, safety, and convenience for all users.”

“This project aligns with broader vision for Abuja as a model city, not just within Nigeria, but across the entire African continent. A well-organized public transportation system is the backbone of any thriving metropolis, and with these terminals, we are laying a solid foundation for sustainable urban development.”

They will provide a structured and organized environment for our public transportation system, promoting greater efficiency and reliability, he added.
