FG to Spend N47.5bn on Upgrading 50 Secondary Schools

The National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC) has announced plans to upgrade infrastructure in 50 selected senior secondary schools across Nigeria, with a budget of N47.5 billion. This initiative is part of the commission’s intervention mandate to improve education standards.

Dr. Iyela Ajayi, Executive Secretary of the NSSEC, disclosed this during a groundbreaking ceremony at one of the selected schools in Koton Karfe, Kogi State, on Wednesday. He explained that a comprehensive NEEDS assessment was conducted at the selected schools to identify gaps and prioritize areas for rehabilitation, in line with the directives from President Bola Tinubu.

“This is just the first phase. Once completed, we will report to the president and the Minister to proceed with the next phase. Schools that are not included in this round should be patient; their turn will come after this phase,” Iyela said.

The project, launched under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2021, focuses on senior secondary schools nationwide. The first phase alone is projected to cost N47.5 billion.
