60 Presidential Amnesty Scholarship Students Achieve First-Class Honors

The Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) Office announced on Thursday that at least 60 students on its scholarship scheme have graduated with first-class honors in various competitive disciplines between 2016 and 2023 from partnering universities.

This was disclosed by PAP’s Head of Education, Dr. Charles Ariye, who highlighted the students’ outstanding achievements in fields such as electrical/electronics engineering, computer science, civil engineering, accounting, law, petroleum engineering, physics, international relations, and biochemistry, among others.

One recent success story is that of Kemien Egbekun, a law student who graduated with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.77 (first class) from Michael and Cecilia Ibru University, Delta State. Two other PAP-sponsored students from the same institution, Oladapo Damilola and Toikumo Prosper, also graduated with second-class upper honors in law. The trio participated in the university’s 6th convocation ceremony on September 6, 2024.

Ariye noted that while the complete scorecard for 2024 is still pending from partner institutions, Egbekun and her colleagues’ accomplishments add to the growing list of PAP scholarship recipients who have excelled academically.

Meanwhile, the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dr. Dennis Otuaro, expressed his pride in the remarkable academic performances of the PAP-sponsored students. According to a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Igoniko Oduma, Otuaro celebrated the accomplishments of Egbekun and others, noting that their success reflects the effectiveness of the Programme in promoting human capital development in the Niger Delta.

Otuaro attributed these achievements to the continued support of President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing that the students’ academic success aligns with the president’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” for peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region.

“We are thrilled by the exceptional academic achievements of the PAP scholarship students. Attaining first-class and second-class upper honors is a significant accomplishment,” Otuaro said. “These results demonstrate that the PAP is successfully fulfilling its mandate, and we are committed to furthering our educational and vocational initiatives.”

He added, “We extend our gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering support of the programme and his dedication to the Niger Delta through his Renewed Hope Agenda. His commitment to the region’s peace and development deserves recognition and encouragement.”
