DASH Lafia Dismissed 10 staff over alleged financial missconduct

The Management of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH), Lafia, Nasarawa State, says it has dismissed 10 of its staff recently over financial misconduct.

Dr Hassan Ikrama, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital disclosed this to Newsmen on Thursday in Lafia.

According to him, the affected staff were dismissed for various offences including stealing, diversion of funds and sabotage.

Mr ikram said “Some of them are engaging in stealing of blood from blood bank and selling same to private hospitals thereby diverting money meant for the hospital’.

“Some are using the facilities of the hospital to carryout investigation in the laboratory and put the money for the charges in their private pockets,” he added.

He noted that all the dismissed staff were tried and found culpable by the committee set up to look into the matter.

Mr Hassan further stressed that when he was appointed as the CMD of the hospital, he discovered that the hospital was rotten with leakages in every department.

“Instead of the internally generated revenue of the hospital to improve, individuals were busy diverting it for personal use as a result services were going down on daily basis.

“The hospital prior to my coming was lacking facilities with just one theatre, 200 beds, one clinic, inadequate offices for doctors.
But today, there is an increased numbers of theatre to 3, additional 200 beds, eight clinics, eight scanning machine as well. And the renovations of offices.

Reacting to the staff strength the CMD said “We have 40 permanent and other visiting consultants in different fields, over 100 Doctors apart from Nurses, Pharmacists and Laboratory Technicians, among others.

“We also acquired brand newp0pppity scan and digital Xray machines that patients were hitherto sent to Keffi or Jos because we do not have them,” he added.

Ikrama therefore assured members of the public that the management of the hospital would do everything possible to ensure better service delivery.
