5 Lost Perks of Nigerian Parents and Grandparents

By   Milcah   Tanimu

Nigeria has changed significantly over the years, especially in terms of lifestyle and opportunities. Here are **five things Nigerian parents and grandparents enjoyed** that are no longer easily available today.

1.Free Education
Back in the day, primary and secondary education in parts of Nigeria, particularly the southwestern region, was free. Today, while basic education remains, the quality has drastically declined, with learning environments facing challenges.

2. Abundant Jobs and Low Unemployment
In the past, securing a job was easier, even with just a secondary school certificate. Many people found work as civil servants, and the country relied more on local production than imports. Now, even those with advanced degrees face tough job markets.

3. Better University Experience
University education was rare but rewarding, with government stipends and clean, well-maintained hostels. Today, public university hostels are overcrowded, and tuition fees are becoming unaffordable for many.

4. Affordable Cars
Owning a car was not out of reach for middle-class Nigerians in the past. However, today, cars are considered a luxury, with prices rising significantly.

5. Affordable Housing
Government workers often had access to affordable housing, and land was cheaper. These days, renting even a small space is a financial struggle, with rising costs and exorbitant fees from landlords.

In conclusion, many of the perks that made life easier for previous generations are now out of reach, highlighting how much Nigeria has changed.
