Dismiss Baseless Rumors on 3rd Mainland Bridge Integrity – Minister of Works

By Jabiru Hassan, Kano

The Honourable Minister of Works, Sen. Engr. Nweze David Umahi (CON), has refuted circulating rumors that the 3rd Mainland Bridge in Lagos is defective, labeling them as deceptive propaganda by detractors.

In a statement issued by the Minister’s Special Adviser on Media, Hon. Barr. Orji Uchenna Orji, the rumors were described as baseless and maliciously orchestrated to undermine public confidence in the works sector of the Renewed Hope administration.

Inspection Confirms Bridge Integrity

To address public concerns and dispel doubts, the Minister dispatched a team of engineers, led by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Engr. Olukorede Kesha, to inspect the entire 11-kilometer length of the bridge. Following the thorough inspection, it was confirmed that the 3rd Mainland Bridge remains structurally sound, and its integrity is intact.

“The bridge is hale and hearty,” the statement emphasized, urging the public to disregard the false rumors.

Commitment to Infrastructure Development

The Renewed Hope administration, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), has prioritized addressing inherited infrastructural deficiencies, including critical road and bridge projects. The 3rd Mainland Bridge and other iconic bridges in Lagos have received significant interventions due to their importance to the transportation network in Lagos and beyond.

The Minister highlighted ongoing repairs to the bridge’s superstructure, substructure, and underwater elements as part of the administration’s dedication to enhancing Nigeria’s road infrastructure.

Quality and Value Assurance

The statement further reassured Nigerians of the Federal Ministry of Works’ commitment to delivering quality, durable, and cost-effective road projects. “The code is quality, speed, and value for money,” the Minister affirmed, assuring that infrastructure delivered under the Renewed Hope administration will stand the test of time.

The public is encouraged to remain confident in the government’s efforts to modernize and improve the nation’s road infrastructure while ignoring unfounded claims intended to sow doubt and fear.
