Gov Zulum Named New Telegraph’s Governor of the Year

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has been named New Telegraph’s Governor of the Year in recognition of his outstanding achievements in 2024.

Zulum will be honored alongside seven other governors who will receive awards in various categories, including education, infrastructure, health, rural development, economy, good governance, and project execution.

The awards ceremony is scheduled for Friday, February 21, 2025, at the Grand Ballroom, Lagos Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, according to a statement released yesterday by his media aide, Abdurrahman Bundi.

Zulum’s nomination was contained in a letter addressed to him, signed by the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of Daily Telegraph Publishing Company Limited, Ayodele Aminu.

Aminu praised Zulum’s leadership and commitment to the people of Borno State, stating:

“We have closely followed your activities since May 29, 2019, when you were sworn in as Governor of Borno State. Your actions, policies, and dedication to service have fully justified the confidence reposed in you by the people of Borno State.”

“Upon assuming office, you inherited a state severely affected by insecurity due to Boko Haram insurgency. You took the bold step of visiting war-ravaged communities to assess the extent of destruction and also toured Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps to empathize with victims, provide relief, and restore their hope of returning to their ancestral homes.”

“Today, you have not only rebuilt public infrastructure destroyed by insurgents but have also constructed entirely new housing for displaced persons. As a result, Borno State’s economic and social landscapes have significantly improved, allowing citizens to carry out their daily activities without fear.”

“Your remarkable achievements, humility, and dedication to the people—without seeking personal recognition—are a testament to your exceptional leadership.”

“In light of this, we are pleased to honor you with the Governor of the Year Award.”
