Governor Buni Orders Release of 30 Inmates from Yobe Correctional Centres

By Abigail Philip David

Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has approved the release of 30 inmates from five correctional facilities across the state.

The decision, based on recommendations from the Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, was announced in a statement by the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Alhaji Saleh Samanja.

According to the statement, Governor Buni personally paid the fines for 14 of the inmates, while the remaining 16 were granted clemency.

The released inmates were from correctional centres in various local government areas. As part of the process, Alhaji Saleh Samanja visited facilities in Nguru, Gashua, and Potiskum to assess the inmates.

Following the governor’s approval, Samanja reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to improving inmates’ welfare and providing skill acquisition programs under Buni’s administration.
