Massive Rally in Kebbi Showcases Strong Support for Governor Idris

By Laiatu Augustine Bamaiyi, Kebbi

Kebbi came alive with enthusiasm on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, as a landmark rally was organized by a diverse coalition of groups.

The event, held at the Haliru Abdu Stadium in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, brought together over 250 organizations and received overwhelming community support. Attendees included prominent political figures, former governors, two ministers, and numerous high-ranking officials, all united in endorsing the rally’s objectives.

The impressive turnout, representing all 21 local government areas, highlighted the deep-rooted significance of the gathering. It reflected strong backing for Governor Nasir Idris’s administration, as well as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to securing much-needed funding for a state long overdue for infrastructural revitalization since the years of military rule.

Since taking office nearly two years ago, Dr. Nasir Idris has tackled Kebbi’s pressing infrastructural challenges that have hindered economic growth. As the first fully homegrown governor, he brings a unique perspective on local challenges, enabling him to implement tailored and effective strategies.

In a remarkable demonstration of leadership, Governor Idris has fulfilled over 75% of his campaign promises, consistently improving the lives of his constituents. The Kebbi State Government stands firmly behind its employees, maintaining a zero-debt policy. Salaries are paid punctually, and all pensions, gratuities, leave allowances, and death benefits have been fully settled.

Under Idris’s stewardship, Kebbi State has maintained fiscal autonomy, avoiding loans or overdrafts while still meeting all financial obligations. The state is currently undergoing a construction boom, with significant investments in roads, schools, motor parks, healthcare, agriculture, information services, and electricity—all aimed at improving residents’ quality of life and fostering a thriving business environment.

A cornerstone of the Kauran Gwandu administration is community empowerment, particularly for farmers, women, youth, and small businesses. The government has distributed free fertilizers to farmers to boost crop yields and ensure food security. Additionally, over 500 trailer loads of food items have been provided to vulnerable populations, with another 300 trailers set for distribution ahead of Ramadan.

Key urban roads in Birnin Kebbi and Yauri have been completed, while upgrades in Argungu are in progress, with plans for Zuru Emirate next. The long-anticipated reconstruction of the 87-kilometer Koko-Zuru road, crucial for agricultural output and trade, has officially begun.

These achievements explain the enthusiastic response from Kebbi residents, who continue to support grassroots movements and local leaders, reaffirming their loyalty to a government they overwhelmingly elected.

Notably, the rally was funded entirely through private contributions, ensuring its neutrality and reflecting the genuine spirit of the community.

This unprecedented event not only underscores the popularity of the APC administration in Kebbi State but also offers a glimpse into the potential political momentum leading up to the 2027 elections.
