Customs Deny CG Tenure Extension Report, Call It Fake

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has dismissed reports of an alleged tenure extension for Comptroller General Adewale Adeniyi, labeling them as false.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the NCS National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, clarified that the news is inaccurate and misleading. He emphasized that appointments and tenure extensions for the CGC are solely at the discretion of the President, in accordance with the NCS Act 2023 and other relevant public service regulations.

“The attention of the NCS has been drawn to a fake release allegedly from the State House regarding an extension of the tenure of the CGC, Adewale Adeniyi. The NCS wishes to categorically state that this information is inaccurate and misleading,” Maiwada stated.

He further reiterated that no such directive has been communicated to the NCS by the appropriate authorities.

Maiwada assured that the leadership of the service remains focused on its core responsibilities, which include trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security. Under the guidance of the current CGC, the NCS has continued implementing reforms aimed at modernizing customs operations, strengthening inter-agency collaboration, and promoting national economic growth.

The NCS spokesperson urged the public and stakeholders to rely only on official sources for accurate information concerning the agency.

He emphasized that any updates regarding appointments or tenure decisions will be formally communicated through appropriate government channels.

“The service appreciates the continued support of stakeholders and remains committed to transparency, professionalism, and service to the nation,” Maiwada concluded.
