Delta Speaker Urges Lawmakers to Renew Commitment to Core Legislative Duties

By Anne Azuka

As the 8th Delta State House of Assembly commenced its third session, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has called for renewed dedication to the constitutional responsibilities of lawmaking, representation, and oversight.

In his welcome address at the first plenary of the session, the Speaker urged members to prioritize the interests of their constituents above personal or political biases.

He emphasized the importance of unity, focus, and purposeful action as the legislature continues to collaborate with the Executive and other stakeholders to deliver democratic dividends to the people, noting that public expectations remain high.

Guwor expressed gratitude to his colleagues for their “uncommon team spirit,” describing their support for the House leadership as invaluable.

“Distinguished colleagues, I warmly welcome you all to the Third Session of the 8th Assembly. Let me begin by expressing my profound gratitude to Almighty God for the successful conclusion of the Second Session,” he said.

“On behalf of the leadership and members of the House, I also wish to thank our amiable Governor, His Excellency Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori, and his dear wife, Her Excellency Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, for gracing our Thanksgiving Service and reception with their esteemed presence. Their presence made the occasion more colourful and memorable,” he added.

The Speaker also acknowledged the immediate past Deputy Governor, His Excellency Deacon (Barr.) Burutu Otuaro, senior colleagues in the National Assembly, and others who joined the House during the Thanksgiving.

“May God continue to guide our deliberations and bless the Delta State House of Assembly,” Guwor concluded.
