PDP Group Urges U.S. to Help Safeguard Nigeria’s Democracy

The PDP Like-Minds Group has called on the United States Government to intervene in what it described as escalating threats to Nigeria’s democratic system.

During a peaceful protest at the U.S. Embassy in Abuja on Thursday, the group’s South-South Coordinator, Ebiowei Amakiri, urged President Donald Trump’s administration to use diplomatic influence to protect Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

The protesters presented a letter to U.S. Ambassador Richard Mills, titled *“Appeal for the United States to Intervene in Safeguarding Nigeria’s Democracy.”* The group accused the ruling party, elements within INEC, and parts of the judiciary of undermining democracy through corruption, intimidation, and institutional compromise.

They warned that these actions, if unchecked, could endanger Nigeria’s democratic survival, and urged the U.S. to use its global influence to promote justice, human rights, and political fairness.

Copies of the letter were also sent to the EU Ambassador, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
