World Cup Playoffs: Iwobi denies criticising Eagles’ lodging, says ‘I only shared video’

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has denied criticising the team’s lodging in Morocco after a video he shared sparked outrage among Nigerian fans ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff.

The short clip, which went viral on social media, appeared to show the players’ accommodation, prompting fans to describe it as “unbefitting” for the national team and likening it to a school hostel.

Responding to the backlash, Iwobi clarified that his post was misunderstood.

“I didn’t say anything; I just showed the video,” the Fulham star explained, insisting he made no negative remarks about the facility.

Although the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has yet to issue an official statement, sources within the body maintained that the team’s lodging meets international standards and is adequate for the players’ comfort.

The Super Eagles have since shifted their focus to preparations for their decisive World Cup playoff clash against Morocco, even as the viral video reignites debate over player welfare and social media perception.
