Tinubu Reconstitutes NERC Board

President Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) following the Senate’s confirmation of its members on December 16.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, Dr. Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni has been appointed Chairman of the commission. Oseni, who joined NERC as a commissioner in January 2017 and later served as Vice Chairman, assumed office as chairman on December 1, 2025. His tenure will run until the completion of his 10-year term in line with the Electricity Act, 2023.

Dr. Yusuf Ali was appointed Vice Chairman of the commission. Ali, who was first appointed as a commissioner in February 2022, also assumed his new role on December 1, 2025, and will serve until the end of his first term.

Other members of the reconstituted board include Mr. Nathan Rogers Shatti, Mr. Dafe Akpeneye, and Mrs. Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello, all of whom are serving second terms as commissioners. Shatti and Akpeneye were first appointed in January 2017, while Bello was appointed in December 2020.

Also appointed is Dr. Chidi Ike, who is serving his first term as commissioner after his appointment in February 2022.

In addition, Dr. Fouad Animashaun was named as a commissioner, with his appointment taking effect from December 2025. An energy economist, Animashaun previously served as Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

President Tinubu charged the board members to deepen and consolidate the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector in strict alignment with the letter and spirit of the Electricity Act, 2023.
