Kaduna Communities Praise Defence Minister’s Free JAMB Registration Scheme

Communities across Kaduna State have welcomed a free Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration initiative launched by the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa Gwabin (retd), aimed at supporting indigent students across the state.

Under the scheme, 1,150 students drawn from Kaduna’s 23 local government areas are expected to benefit, with at least 50 beneficiaries selected from each council. According to a statement made available to journalists in Kaduna, the programme is designed to improve access to tertiary education for students from low-income and vulnerable households, particularly in communities affected by insecurity.

Residents say the initiative will help reduce the financial burden on families and create opportunities for young people to pursue higher education. Some community members also noted that the programme aligns with efforts to promote inclusive education, consistent with Sustainable Development Goal 4 on quality education.

Mr. Jacob Ibrahim, a resident of Zonkwa in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, described the scheme as timely, saying it would have a positive impact on students who might otherwise be unable to register for the examination.

Similarly, Hon. Mohammed Ibrahim Soba from Soba Local Government Area said the initiative could strengthen social inclusion and complement ongoing efforts by the Kaduna State Government to promote unity and development. The organisers say the scheme is part of broader efforts to expand educational opportunities and support youth development in the state.
