Tinubu: N98bn Disbursed to Strengthen Primary Healthcare Centres Nationwide

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu says more than N98 billion was disbursed in 2025 to strengthen primary healthcare delivery across Nigeria, describing it as one of the largest single-year investments in grassroots healthcare in recent years.

Tinubu made the disclosure at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Health Convention and Roundtable 1.0 in Abuja. He was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

According to a statement signed by Yomi Odunuga, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the SGF, the funds were released through the Basic Health Care Provision Fund to support operational costs in more than 8,300 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) nationwide.

The President said 2,565 PHCs have been upgraded, while 1,456 are undergoing rehabilitation. He added that the funding framework is being expanded to cover an additional 5,212 facilities, bringing the total number of benefiting centres to over 13,500, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

Tinubu said upgraded centres now operate 24-hour services with trained health workers, essential medicines, and improved power and water supply. He also disclosed that health insurance coverage has been extended to more than 10 million vulnerable Nigerians, and over 78,000 frontline health workers have been trained.

The President urged governors and legislators to increase health sector funding toward the 15 per cent Abuja Declaration benchmark and strengthen state health insurance schemes.
