Former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and ex-Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, have expressed condolences to Nasir El-Rufai over the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai.
In separate messages shared on Saturday, both leaders described her passing as a profound loss and prayed for strength for the family during the grieving period.
Malami, in a statement posted on social media, said the loss of a mother is irreplaceable and assured El-Rufai of his prayers and support, particularly amid his current legal challenges.
Kwankwaso also paid tribute to the late matriarch, describing her as a woman whose life produced a legacy of accomplished children. He prayed for divine mercy and urged the family to bear the loss with patience.
Hajiya Umma El-Rufai reportedly died in Cairo, Egypt, on Friday at about 100 years after a brief illness. Her death was announced by her grandson, Bello El-Rufai.
Following the development, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission granted El-Rufai temporary bail to enable him attend the funeral rites.
The former governor is currently facing corruption and money laundering charges before a Federal High Court in Kaduna, with the case adjourned to March 31, 2026.
Several prominent Nigerians, including Bola Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar, have also paid tributes to the deceased.
