Resident doctors and other medical practitioners in Plateau State have issued a seven-day ultimatum to the state government, warning of a possible strike over unresolved salary and welfare concerns. The notices were issued by the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Plateau State Specialist Hospital chapter, and the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners of Nigeria (NAGGMDP), Plateau State chapter.
In a letter dated April 20, the ARD said it had earlier requested a review of doctors’ remuneration in line with the national salary structure but had not received a response. The letter was signed by ARD President, Dr. Elizabeth Kassem Azi, and Secretary, Dr. Ritbul Jacob.
The association said delays in addressing the issue have contributed to doctors leaving the state, putting pressure on the healthcare system. It warned that services could be withdrawn if no concrete steps are taken within the ultimatum period.
Similarly, in a separate notice dated April 16 and addressed to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, NAGGMDP called for the full implementation of the revised Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and payment of outstanding allowances. The letter was signed by Chairman, Dr. Dyelbak Luka Waden, and Secretary, Dr. Wala Nantip Lohbut.
Both groups said their demands are in line with existing agreements and necessary to sustain healthcare delivery. They cautioned that failure to resolve the issues could disrupt medical services across the state.
