CNA Calls for collaboration with NASS leadership

The clerk to the National Assembly, Arc. Ojo Amos Olatunde on Tuesday called for collaboration with the national assembly in the fighting corruption.

He made this call while delivering his goodwill message in a program organized by forensic insight international Ltd. during her 5th annual conference on financial crime, cross-border crime and illicit sunstance abuse held at the National Institute of Police Studies.

According to the CNA, rightly represented by his Special Assistant, Media and Labour, Mr Austen Adesoro, Nigeria is at it’s deplorable state because financial fraud, cross border crimes and reckless consumption of illicit drugs have become tragic reality hitting us without let.

Ojo accused those who compromised in their jobs of being responsible for the country’s systematic loopholes.

He therefore charged the judiciary and enforcement officers to wake and brace up to our national challenges and to always place the country first in their line of duties.

“Imperatively, I am using this gathering to call on us all, to henceforth collaborate with the present extraordinary leadership of the 9th national assembly, as it is being led by pragmatic and purposeful personalities in Senator Ahmed Lawal, President of the Senate, and Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives, to ultimately sharpen the teeth of our anti-graft and anti-crime Agencies for greater national performance.

“The Nigerian judiciary should equally wake and brace up to our national challenges by ensuring speedy and transparent treatment of corruption related cases in order to discharge penalties to offenders to serve as deterrence to other Nigerians who may want to engage in corruption in the country.

“Above all, I urge our enforcement officers and policy makers across the country to always put and place the country first in their line of duties.” Ojo said.

Similarly, the DG of Legal Aid Council, Alh. Bagudu Abubakar rightly represented by Head Custodial Centers Decongestion Services, Kenneth Mozea assured that the council would indeed play significant role in the counter corruption campaign in Nigeria.

According to Bagudu, “In relation to the topic at hand, I am of the view that it is in carrying out the proactive function/duties as set out in the Legal Aid Act, that the Council would indeed play a significant role in the counter corruption campaign.

“Corruption is endermic in Nigeria and had resulted underdevelopement of the country. Since the proactive duties of the council involves constant engagement with the indegent the council had partnered development partners in reaching the grace route.”
