Kaduna bows to pressure, shift LG elections to 5th June

Following severe criticism mounted for non complying with the law and guidelines for  fixing elections date and others, the Kaduna state independent electoral commission (KADSIECOM) Thursday changed the date of 2021 local government elections to 5th June this year.
The KadSIECOM election committee has also been reconstituted in line with the KadSIECOM law of the state commission.
These was announced during a stakeholders meeting with leaders of all the political parties held at the commission office in Kaduna, Wednesday.
Announcing the new date, the acting Chairman of the commission Ibrahim Sambo said the change of the date became imperative in view of the criticisms that trailed the commission’s earlier date for not following the due process of fixing the local government Election time table.
He said “ln consonance with the section 25 (1) of KadSIECOM law no. 2, 2018, as amended, the general public is hereby informed that the Local Government Councils election and hold in Kaduna state on Saturday 5th June, 2921 between 8:00am- 4:00pm, and I the commission hereby issued the attached timetable”.
Tentative timetable and guidelines for the 2021 Kaduna LG councils election and activities preceding the announcement of the new date were distributed to all the representative of the political partial attended the emergency stakeholders meeting.
Questions concerning mistakes of the 2018 LG election including the inability to conduct the postponed election in some LG areas among others silent issues of malpractice were raised and answered.
The stakeholders pleaded for time to study the guidelines and to know what other things necessary to clarified, and the chairman obliged them.
