LGAs Should Be Autonomous, Independent – Mustapha Shehu

By Muhammad Goronyo, Sokoto

Speaking for 23 Sokoto state Council Chairmen, the Sokoto North and All Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) state chapter chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Shehu Sokoto said being closer to rural populace and who received complaints by masses of all classes of rural dwellers, they prepare to be independent.

“What I mean is Federal government cash allocation should come directly to us instead of state governors.

“We know better their pains, needs and how to solve their problems. If I should list reasons why we should be autonomous we can spend the whole day without reaching the end”, averred Mustapha.

He said federal government and any right thinking individual knows when allocation is given directly to chairmen, rural areas must develop faster and masses would have something to eat through execution of projects and similar development executions like that.

He added that great percentage of votes come from rural areas, therefore I have seen no reason why they should be left alone in the dividends of democracy which they have the right to enjoy.

Alhaji AbduWahab Yahaya Goronyo is the Goronyo council chairman and supported ALGON chairman in the local government autonomy.

“If Federal government, Senate, House of Representatives and stakeholders consider rural areas important, they should cry with one voice to make them autonomous, independent”.
