In line with the vision of Governor Umo.Eno as encapsulated in the ARISE Agenda, Akwa Ibom gvernment has rolled out a social programme tailored towards the welfare of elderly citizens in our rural communities.

The initiative, known as ARISE Initiative for the Elderly, would be managed by the Wife of the Governor, Mrs Patience Umo Eno through the ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare and would benefit 500 elders every month.

This was disclosed by the Governor in a remark during the Akwa Ibom State Government Monthly Prayer Service in Uyo last weekend.

Eno explained that the ARISE Initiative for the Elderly is specifically tailored towards meeting the needs of the lowest of the low in the society.

The beneficiaries he said would be brought to the State Capital where they would receive stipends from the state government to cater for their welfare, while professionals would be on ground to lecture them on issues such as health, finance, and so on.

Governor Eno directed the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare to liaise with Local Government Chairmen in the selection of beneficiaries, which he emphasized should be drawn from each ward of the state so as to ensure transparency.
