The People’s Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom has flagged off its governorship
campaigns with a charge on the Independent National Electoral Commission to be neutral and unbiased before and during this year’s elections.

It has however warned that any attempt by the commission to take side
could jeopardize the country fledgling democracy.

State chairman of the party,Mr Paul Ekpo, made the call in a press
conference in Uyo to mark formal commencement of campaigns in
preparation for the general elections in the state.

“As the 2019 elections draws near, we wish to remind the electoral
umpire that by the very nature of their work, they are supposed to
stay as unbiased and uninvolved institution. This is because their
bias can sniff life out our fledgling democracy”. He said.

The chairman said that the people of Akwa Ibom have no cause to
regret electing Governor Udom Emmanuel because of his achievements
including the establishment of 13 industries, remodeling of hospitals
and granting of over N2bn interest free loan to market women as well
as the construction of over 1,700 kilometres of roads and bridges.

“Today our decision to election our Governor is not in vain this
decision has birthed in no fewer than 13 industries, remodeled and
reconstructed re-equipped many general hospital, granted over 2bn
interest free loan to market women and men, constructed over 1.7000
kilometers of well networked roads and bridges, undertaken massive
renovation of schools, stimulation of sports development with many
laurels and prizes to show.” Ekpo said

He said that as the party get set to commence another round of
campaigns to solicit support for another term, it is emboldened by the
massive pillars the state governor has erected in critical sectors of
the economy.

Ekpo said the party has initiated a robust flagship initiatives geared
towards the cultivation and growth of enterprise among the people.

According to him the part has given 10million prize money as seed
capital or business support to Akwa Ibom people and trained over 324
men and women in different viable, most sough-after skills such as
carpentry, make-ups and interior decoration among others.

He said the party had a long tradition of grassroots mobilization
unlike the other parties whose only hope of acquiring political power
was anchored on violence and rigging.

While alleging that it was not ignorant of the scheme of the other
party’s plans of using security agencies to arrest and intimidate
members of the PDP, Ekpo prayed that the Almighty God would frustrate
their evil intentions again.
