AIU Appeals Tobi Amusan’s Clearance of Doping Violation

By   Milcah  Tanimu

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has initiated the process to challenge the decision to clear Tobi Amusan of doping violations. Amusan had been charged with three whereabouts failures in July but was later cleared by a panel in August. Now, the AIU is taking the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, marking a fresh legal battle for the athlete.

In a statement, the AIU mentioned, “The AIU filed an appeal last Friday (September 15, 2023) with the Court of Arbitration for Sport against the Disciplinary Tribunal’s decision, dated 17 August 2023, that Tobi Amusan did not commit an anti-doping rule violation for Whereabouts Failures.” The AIU stated it would refrain from further comments on the matter until the appeal concludes.

Despite her legal challenges, Amusan recently won her third consecutive women’s 100m hurdles Diamond League title in Eugene, putting her World Championships disappointment behind her.
