Alex Iwobi Leads Super Eagles as Most-Capped Player for Benin Clash

By   Milcah   Tanimu

Fulham FC’s Alex Iwobi has become the most-capped player in the Super Eagles squad ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against the Republic of Benin. With 82 international appearances, Iwobi now leads the squad, surpassing key players William Troost-Ekong and Moses Simon, who each have 74 caps.

The Super Eagles are set to face the Benin Republic at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium as they strive for victory to secure a spot in the 2025 AFCON in Morocco. Iwobi’s rise to this position is remarkable, considering he made his Super Eagles debut only in 2015 under former coach Sunday Oliseh. Since then, he has steadily built an impressive international career.

While Iwobi leads the team in caps, other experienced players like Troost-Ekong (74 caps), Moses Simon (74 caps), and Wilfred Ndidi (60 caps) also bring valuable experience to the squad. Meanwhile, emerging talents like Victor Osimhen (37 caps), Ola Aina (43 caps), and fresh faces such as Stanley Nwabali, Ademola Lookman, Bruno Onyemaechi, and Calvin Bassey will contribute to the squad’s dynamic.

Iwobi’s leadership and experience will be crucial as the Super Eagles push for all three points in this key qualifier. His role in the team will be pivotal as they aim to strengthen their chances of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON, showcasing his significance to the squad as they prepare for this crucial clash.
