Bayelsa United to Face Shooting Stars in NPFL Season Opener

By Amgbare Ekaunkumo, Yenagoa

Former Aiteo Cup champions Bayelsa United will kick off their 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign with an away match against Shooting Stars at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan, on August 22, 2025.

The draws, announced during the NPFL Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Abuja, pit the Prosperity Boys against the Oluyole Warriors in the season’s opening fixture.

Last season, Bayelsa United defeated Shooting Stars 3-0 at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa, with Ifeanyi Ogba scoring twice and Magbisa Wisdom adding the third goal.

Bayelsa United chairman, Dr. Tarilaye Nwankwe, expressed optimism ahead of the new season:

“Preparations are in top gear, and the team is focused. With government support, we are approaching every game like a cup final to entertain our fans and aim for a podium finish,” he said.

The opening weekend also features defending champions against Rivers United, Abia Warriors versus Kano Pillars, and Wikki Tourists hosting Plateau United, among other fixtures.

Bayelsa United has intensified training as they look to build on last season’s momentum and make a strong statement in the new campaign.
