Burna Boy Announces Seventh Studio Album Release

By Milcah Tanimu

Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Damini Ogulu, widely known as Burna Boy, has announced the release of his seventh studio album. The Afrobeat sensation revealed the news on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, stating simply, “Album dropping 12AM.” The new album is set to be released on July 30.

This announcement follows Burna Boy’s recent celebration of the fifth anniversary of his Grammy-nominated 2019 album “African Giant,” which he marked with a concert at Koko Camden in the United Kingdom.

Burna Boy has consistently been in the spotlight for his contributions to bringing Nigerian music to the global stage. In 2019, he won the Best International Act at the BET Awards and was named an Apple Music Up Next artist. His fourth studio album, “African Giant,” won Album of the Year at the All Africa Music Awards and was nominated for Best World Music Album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.

He followed up with “Twice as Tall” in August 2020, which earned him the Best World Music Album at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards. In 2022, Burna Boy released “Love, Damini,” which became the highest debut of a Nigerian album on the Billboard 200 chart and the highest-charting African album in France, the Netherlands, and the UK. Later that year, he was awarded the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic plaque for his achievements in music.

In 2023, Burna Boy was ranked number 197 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 200 greatest singers of all time and won his fourth Best International Act at the BET Awards. His seventh album, “I Told Them,” released in October 2023, earned him nominations for the 2024 Grammys, marking his fourth consecutive album to receive a Grammy nomination.

Stay tuned for the release of Burna Boy’s latest work at midnight and see what new heights this influential artist will reach.
