Kassim Afegbua, Media Director of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council, condemned two recent attacks on the party’s campaign team in Edo State on Monday. He accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of twisting the incidents to create a false narrative, suggesting APC members were either attacking their own or being chased from campaign locations.
Afegbua criticized the PDP for what he described as a propaganda campaign, alleging that the party has hired hackers and spin doctors to manipulate the situation and mislead voters. He specifically mentioned two incidents in Edo North during APC’s campaigns.
The first incident occurred at Ososo in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, where Afegbua claimed APC held a successful rally. As the APC convoy was leaving, thugs, allegedly PDP supporters, attempted to disrupt their movement. He expressed gratitude to the security operatives who restored order and reiterated that the party values the sanctity of life and opposes violence.
A second attack happened at Ekperi in Etsako Central Local Government. According to Afegbua, after a campaign event, their convoy was attacked by thugs, who even fired shots at their candidate’s vehicle. Again, security forces controlled the situation. Afegbua refuted PDP’s claims that the APC was driven out of Ekperi, emphasizing that the area is an APC stronghold.
Afegbua emphasized that APC has been committed to a peaceful campaign, but warned that the party would defend itself if these violent actions continued. He called on the PDP to caution its supporters, stating that any further acts of aggression might provoke a strong retaliation from the APC.
He concluded with a warning, stating that while APC prefers peaceful electoral engagement, it would not hesitate to defend itself if necessary.
