Must read

Amidst an ongoing legal battle instituted against Amnesty International by a child rights advocacy group, Kids in Need Society International for what it described as persistent inciting and false reports against the military authorities.

The group had in a suit filled at a Federal High Court sitting in Makurdi maintained that the reports released by Amnesty International were inciting and capable of breaching public peace in Nigeria.

Counsels to the group, R.P Ibiamu Esq and Baki Iveren Esq of Nderfo & co in a statement all expressed confidence that the prayers in the application will succeed based on supporting facts in the interest of justice.

Similarly, the Mahatma Gandhi Peace Foundation Nepal, an international organisation for peace and human rights had petitioned the UK Commission for Charity as well as the UK parliament to deregister Amnesty International for breaching their articles of registration under the laws of England and Wales.

In a petition to the High Commission, which was accompanied by a supporting affidavit deposed to by Solomon Semaka, the organisation maintained that it was important to deregister and sanction AI in the interest of the country.

Responding to questions after the interactive session between senior officials of UK Commission in Abuja and the Ghandi Foundation country representative, Solomon Semaka, alongside a team of lawyers maintained that their visit to the Commission was to clarify their position seeking for the deregistration of Amnesty International.

We are hopeful and optimistic that from the facts available, the right thing will be done in the interest of national peace.
